We wish to clarify the beneficiary information shown on your Annual Benefit Statement as we are concerned that some members may be confused.
Although beneficiary nominations are not binding on the Board, you may nominate your preferred beneficiary so the Board has an indication of your preferences particularly where your personal circumstances are not clear. If you pass away whilst a member of the fund:
A fortnightly pension is payable for life to your eligible partner*. A partner includes your spouse through marriage or a domestic partner, including a same sex partner.
A child’s pension may also be payable to any eligible children. Eligible children include children who are under age 18 or between ages 18 and 25 if eligible full-time students, at the time of your death. If you die on or after 1 July 2010 and you have a dependent disabled adult child they may be eligible for a pension.
If you die with no eligible partner or children, your benefit may be paid to your estate. The amount of your benefit payable to your estate is less than what is payable to your dependants.
A lump sum is payable to eligible dependants*.
Your eligible dependants may include your spouse through marriage or a domestic partner, including a same sex partner, your child or children under age 18 or up to age 25 if they are full-time students, or another person who was dependant upon you. If you have a dependent disabled adult child they may be eligible for a benefit.
In certain circumstances, eligible children (who are under age 18, or between ages 18 and 25 if eligible full-time students) may also be eligible for a child’s pension.
