Representatives of the Rail Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) have made a claim that we're hopeful can be resolved through discussions with the union and engagement with Metro Trains.

The COVID-19 vaccine will not invalidate your benefits

ESSSuper - 03 Jun 2021

COVID-19 vaccines and insurance

Don't worry, we've got you covered

Throughout this coronavirus pandemic, our members have been the heroes on the front line, and we remain committed to supporting you.

With rumours circulating on social media that the COVID-19 vaccines are classified as 'experimental' medical treatments that could void your ESSSuper Defined Benefit (DB) death or disability benefits or Accumulation Plan (AP) insurance, we'd like to assure all our vaccinated members that you're still covered.

In a bid to combat these false rumours, the Financial Services Council (FSC) has released a statement explaining that getting vaccinated at an approved medical facility by a qualified professional does not count as a 'self-inflicted injury'. FSC CEO Sally Loane has described the rumours as "scare mongering gone wrong. It is entirely inappropriate and needs to stop immediately."

Your DB death and disablement benefits are underwritten by the Victorian Government. Any AP Death, Disability and/or Income protection insurance benefits you may hold are underwritten by AIA.

These benefits are there to provide you with the peace of mind that you and your family are covered should the unfortunate arise. Should the unfortunate occur, and you have an adverse reaction from the vaccine, you will still be covered at claim time.

You can be confident that when you get vaccinated, your life insurance will be with you every step of the way, completely unaffected.

Now's the time to learn about your cover

If there's one thing that the coronavirus pandemic has made clear, it's the importance of knowing what coverage you have before you need it. It's best to be prepared. Don't wait until it's time to claim before finding out what life insurance cover you hold.
