A word from the CEO

Super News

Welcome to the winter issue of Super News. The weather might be dull and dreary, but our work here at ESSSuper is as exciting as ever – now is the time to settle in with a warm cup of coffee, as you come up to speed with the updates from your super fund.

For this edition of Super News, we’ve explored a broad range of topics that we hope you’ll enjoy reading.

Enhancing our digital experience

I'm pleased to announce the launch of AssistMe.

AssistMe is just like having a personal trainer by your side, and is designed to help members learn, understand and explore their options, in order to make the most of their retirement.
AssistMe is uniquely innovative for our Defined Benefit members – who up until this point, haven’t had access to an online tool which could project their retirement – and we couldn’t be more excited about it.Members can access AssistMe anywhere, anytime, through Members Online.

AssistMe is currently available to members with a New Scheme, ESSS Defend Benefit and/or Accumulation account.

Over the next year AssistMe will be made available to ESSSuper members in other Schemes. I encourage all members to log in and try it out – you might be surprised to see what your retirement forecast looks like.

Advice that’s just for you

At ESSSuper, we’re always working hard to ensure our members have access to the general information they need to make informed decisions, but we also recognise that sometimes we need to call on our experts to give tailored advice. That’s why we have an arrangement with Link Advice Pty Ltd3, which gives our members access to qualified Financial Advisers, who are experts in the Defined Benefit space.

Our Financial Advisers are never paid commissions, and are required to always act in your best interest. For more information on how our fee-for-service financial advisers could help you plan your future, call our Member Service Centre.

Industry update

Investment markets have rebounded from a period of volatility late last year. During this period ESSSuper Member Investment Choice (MIC) Options1 buffered by downside protection – fared better relative to our peers.

Up to May 2019, ESSSuper's longer term performance remains above our respective objectives2, a reflection of how our downside protection portfolio aims to protect members’ super, while delivering strong long term returns.

We’re looking to the future

At ESSSuper, our Funds Under Management have reached $29 billion – but the way we measure success is more than just our pool of money. Member satisfaction is a key driver and measure of success for us, and I’m happy to report that independent benchmark group SuperRatings has awarded ESSSuper with 10 Year Platinum Ratings for our Accumulation Plan and Retirement Income Stream. This places us in the top 15% of Australian funds for ‘best value for money’.
I hope you enjoy this issue of Super News. Here at ESSSuper, we talk a lot about financial freedom and what that means for our members. As the partner for life for our Emergency Service and Public Sector members, we’re always moving forward, to ensure we’re providing you with the best service possible. No matter what financial freedom looks like for you, we’re here to help you get there.

Regards,
Mark Puli

Under this arrangement, Link Advice authorises certain qualified ESSSuper financial advisers to provide financial product advice to ESSSuper members. Although these financial advisers are employed by ESSSuper, the advice will be provided under Link Advice’s AFSL and Link Advice is responsible for the financial services advice provided to you.
