A word from the CEO

Super News

W

elcome to the 2020 winter issue of Super News. This year has seen each and every one of us face unprecedented challenges as we move towards a new normal. For this edition of Super News we’ve explored a range of topics that we hope you will enjoy reading at this extraordinary time.

Adapting to COVID-19

With parts of Victoria in the midst of Level 3 restrictions, our day to day life is changing as the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 continue to unfold. Our thoughts are with each and every one of our members affected by the pandemic.

We want to assure you that our focus remains on delivering exceptional service and the best retirement outcomes we can. To ensure the continued safety of our members and staff in this current climate, we’ve made some changes to how we meet. Our Education and Advice teams are now engaging with members through video and phone appointments. We are also providing a range of online resources and self-service options for our members throughout the website.

Super is a long-term investment, so while investment markets can be unpredictable over the shorter term, they typically recover over the longer term. If you're approaching retirement, or are retired, it's still important to stay focused on your long-term investment strategy and consider all your options before making any significant changes.

Investment update

InvestmentUpdate_510x250Financial markets have remained stable and early indicators of economic activity continued to show very gradual signs of improvement across many developed market economies. Much of Western Europe, the United States and Australia are showing clear upward trends in human mobility from very low levels in March. However, several emerging market economies continue to exhibit persistent growth in new COVID-19 infections, adding to the number of cases globally.

Infection rates and how businesses and consumers adjust to the new normal remain key focus points for markets in the months ahead.

We're celebrating a decade of platinum performance

For more than 10 consecutive years, independent superannuation research and ratings organisation, SuperRatings^, has awarded our Accumulation Plan and Income Stream products a Platinum rating (the highest rating possible). This platinum award means that ESSSuper has been recognised as one of the "best value for money" super funds in Australia. For the last two years ESSSuper has also been rated number 1 for satisfaction and advocacy in the Investment Trends survey of Super Fund members.*

I hope you enjoy this issue of Super News. As the partner for life for our Emergency Service and Public Sector members, we’re always moving forward, to ensure we’re providing you with the best service possible. We will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds and will provide regular updates on our website.

Lastly I would like to thank you our members, for your courage, commitment and contribution throughout COVID-19. Your ongoing dedication through these trying times is a testament to each and every one of you.

Regards,
Mark Puli
Chief Executive Officer
